Inspired by her childhood collection of vintage jewellery, Gem Privé founder, Miranda McCarthy followed her dream to become an award-winning fine jewellery designer. She has created pieces for the English National Ballet and has graced the pages of Vogue magazine with collections she has sold through a network of exclusive retailers and hotels. However, she quickly learned that the world of jewellery design was a closed door to all but a few select designers.

“The retail world was pretty fixed in its idea of what was saleable, and there wasn’t really a platform that offered full support to new design talent,” McCarthy explains. “I wanted to do something about it.”

Miranda understood that without a track record of sales, or previous collections, designers would find it next to impossible to break into the retail market as professional buyers are generally unwilling to take risks.

Making a career out of designing jewellery requires a large investment of both time and money. Fledgling designers are forced to shell out huge sums before they have had a chance to test the market. The agonising wait to see a return on their investment continues once the pieces are in stores. If the pieces don’t sell – they go back to the designer. It’s a fantastic, risk-free approach for the retailers, but “a big gamble” for designers.

Gem Privé reduces the process of entering the market to just two steps:
